OUR MISSION

Denny Creek Neighborhood Alliance is a community organization of community members who are concerned about protecting the Denny Creek watershed and its environs. The organization's mission is to preserve, protect and restore the natural resources of the area, and promote stewardship of wildlife and the environment. By working with neighbors, local citizens and business groups, schools and governmental agencies, we plan to address subjects such as stewardship of water and land, restoration of area creeks and trails, community awareness of local ecology, and information sharing regarding environment friendly practices for community residents.

ACTIVITES & MEETINGS

General membership and community meetings are held quarterly. The public is invited. There usually is an announced speaker or topic in addition to a brief Board meeting.

The board of directors meets from 7 to 9 PM on the third Tuesday of every month, except December. All DCNA members are welcome.

Work parties are scheduled for various DCNA projects, including work on Denny Creek and the trails and recreation area of Denny and Finn Hill Parks.

Denny Park community pride day and picnic at Denny Park: A day-long celebration is held every September for members and the public in the Denny Park recreation area, with exhibits, food, contests, a band, children's events and a general good time.

"Woodlands and Waterways" is a quarterly newsletter that summarizes activities of DCNA and issues of interest. It is mailed to all members and is available to others upon request. In addition, letters and notices are sent to member to announce special events.

A database is maintained of the names and addresses of DCNA's approximately 280 individual and family members. An annual information update form and dues reminder ($25 for an individual or family; tax deductible) is mailed in March.

School-related activities are an important activity. DCNA is helping with environmental education for the Adventure and Environment School and other local schools, including Carl Sandburg Elementary, Finn Hill Junior High, and Arrowhead Elementary Schools.

Natural and local history are actively recorded by DCNA.
