Juanita Woodlands

In 2003, the State of Washington announced it would sell 40 acres of pristine woodlands along Juanita Drive for residential development. By collaborating and negotiating with local and state government agencies, DCNA raised the funds to purchase and preserve the woodlands as an urban forest and wildlife habitat preserve.

Neighborhood Parks

The Big Finn Hill and Holmes Point neighborhoods are home to several of the most naturally diverse parks in the Seattle area, offering lakeside beaches, miles of maintained trails, forest groves, and pristine streams. DCNA supports clean up and restoration projects within the parks and fosters opportunities for environmental education.

Kirkland Annexation

In 2009, the City of Kirkland passed legislation to annex the neighborhoods of Finn Hill (including Holmes Point), northern Juanita and Kingsgate. When finalized, Kirkland will add 33,000 residents, making it the 6th largest city in King County and the 12th largest in the state. DCNA is working with government officials and agencies to ensure development and zoning density, environmental considerations, service levels and costs of annexation benefit the community and natural areas.

Tree & Hillside Protection

The hillsides and bluffs on Holmes Point and Finn Hill are susceptible to erosion from storm water runoff and landslides caused by unstable soil.  DCNA has collaborated with King County to enact ordinances to reduce the risks.
